~Slipcover Love~

It's hard to believe it's already been almost two weeks since I last posted.  For some reason I think I'm going to have more time once school starts, but it seems just the opposite due to all the running around and activities.  I'm trying to enjoy it since my oldest is a Senior in High School this year, which I can hardly believe and we all know it goes by so fast.

It really isn't until the weather changes and I don't have any gardening to do that things will slow down a little and I will have more time for blogging and to get my Etsy store back up and running.  I did make a little time the other day to take some photos of my new slipcoverd sofas that I got from Ikea this Summer.  I used some money I made from doing Farm Chicks to purchase these sofas that I'd wanted  for many years.  My niece is moving into her first home, so it was good timing for my old furniture in the living room to get a new one.  Enjoy! xoxo K.

I wanted lighter furniture than what I had, but felt like the white slipcovers were a little to bright for this room.  I have more variations of creamy whites and thought the Ektorp Svanby Beige slipcovered sofas would be a better fit.  I really like how they brightened everything up .  I still worry a little about how light the fabric is, but since they are slipcovers I can clean them if they get dirty.

I haven't showed my stacked benches very much since the two chairs that were sitting in front of them photographed a funny color and it just didn't look right.  Everything shows up nicely now behind the sofa.

I love how the two sofas look on either side of the fireplace and I recently cut all my hydrangeas to dry and placed them in these two urns.

I hope everyone enjoys the end of Summer.  We are having  hot weather this week with temps up in the 90's.  I'm soaking it up since I know colder rainy days are on the way.

  1. such a wonderful room, Kathleen! I agree about the sofa colors, I think the antiqued white is a beautiful fit. I wish we lived close to an IKEA, don't even know where the closest would be.

  2. Beautiful Kathleen! I would love to change my sofa in our family room. Those slipcovers are great and easier to clean when they are separated with the cushions instead of an all over slip cover.Love your whole room...absolutely beautiful! And yes time goes by way too fast.I have an 8th grader. She is my only and I am holding on to the years!

  4. Congrats on your new sofas....they look great! I love this color and wish I were in a position to change from the white...oh well, but I did luck out a few weeks back and found 2 new sofa slipcover sets for $40 on Craigslist! (I wonder how they would dye?) hummmmm. I'm crazy over your benches too.
    Take care,

  13. Your room is just beautiful! I just purchased two Ektorp chairs from IKEA. After looking at your pictures, I was second guessing my choice of white slipcovers. Then I realized that they are SLIPCOVERS and I can get the beige ones later for a change!

  14. You have a beautiful living room, Kathleen! I love your new sofas and their slipcovers. I have the Ektorp chairs {my daughter has one now and I have one in our living room} that I bought the white slipcovers for a couple of years ago. I just love them.

  17. I have the same two sofas and we love them too. We have white but wee thinking of getting the beige so it is lovely to see yours. We've had ours for 6 yrs with four teenagers and all their friends they have held up. They've been slept on a lot too! I've bought a new set of white slipcovered once so far for them because after a while the dirt didn't come out. Yours are beautiful with your home decor

  18. I "heart" everything about your decorating style! The sofas really really pull the room together! My youngest just started her last year of college (tears) and my oldest granddaughter started first grade (more tears)! Time flies, enjoy every moment with them.

  20. I have the Ikea loveseat. When I bought it, I bought an additional slipcover. That way, if I have one in the wash, I have the other one to put on right away. I really love mine.

  21. I did the same thing Kathleen, when I purchased my sofa slipped I went back and forth on white or off white, I bought the off white from Taylor Scott melrose California. Later wished I had gotten the whitest white but, when they needed a washing I threw in some bleach and have a happy in between.
I also noticed you have my lamp, when I found it at Target I was shocked target had something this great !!
I added a lamp harp to mine so I was not limited to what kind of lampshade I could use on it.

Your room is exactly how it should look, and a room to love.
When you pass by it I am sure you look and say to yourself this is my perfect room and that's a great feeling to know you have created that perfect room we all love.

Yes the last of the heat here as well, in fact we get heat all the way into October and still nice weather in November, I truly am looking forward to colder days enjoying what winter brings.
See you and your beauty soon.

  24. Kathleen this furniture setting is one of my all time faves
I have always wanted two couches facing each other this way. I wish it would have worked in my home but just looks odd so we went with a sectional instead.
Maybe it just means I have to wait for a home with a fireplace, ;)
    It looks beautiful!

  29. Your room is so interesting with all the different shades of white, creams and browns simply beautiful to look at. Love the slipcovered sofas. That color would never work in my home with my 2 Shih Tzus all over the furniture. The good part is that they are slipcovers and can be washed. I love hydrangeas and have been drying them like crazy. I love they way yours look in the urns.

  30. Your new couches look wonderful in your beautiful room! I had such a hard time choosing between the white and beige slipcover when I got my Ikea couch. I went with the white, but I really love the beige too because it looks like linen.

  32. What a pretty room. I'm jealous! I love the cushion with the text on it (which is probably the only thing I'd be able to afford....!)

  33. I have this couch in black and the matching chair in white. Believe it or not, the black one shows dirt more as far as dust and dog hair. I have washed my slipcovers several times and they wash very well. I will mention that the slipcover on my white chair got shorter after several washings even though I was very careful drying it. My husband made fun of the chair when I first got it, as he is a leather recliner man, but now he sits in the Ikea chair most of the time!

  36. Love your sofas. I'm thinking of buying the Ikea sofa also, but am afraid it won't hold up with the kids, dogs and cat. How are your sofas holding up?

    Thanks!
